Root Coverage/ Soft Tissue Graft

Soft tissue grafts can be used to cover roots, develop gum tissue where absent due to excessive gingival recession and bone loss or to make prosthetic devices, such as dental implants, look natural. In some cases, they can cover exposed roots to protect them from decay and prepare teeth for orthodontic treatment. They may reduce tooth sensitivity and improve the esthetics of your smile as well.

Aggressive tooth brushing and periodontal (gum) disease are two leading reasons that roots become exposed. Exposed roots may be sensitive to temperature change, are more vulnerable to decay and are associated with loss of supporting bones.  Expossed roots make your teeth look unnaturally long, robbing you of your beautiful smile.

When you experience loss of gum tissue around your teeth it can be the beginning of a serious oral health problems. Fortunately, your doctor can perform a predictable treatment for reversing this tissue loss.

During root coverage ,a material such as AlloDerm :a Regenarative Tissue Matrix is used to facilitate coverage of the exposed root. This can be done for one tooth or several teeth to even your gum line and reduce sensitivity.

AlloDerm is donated human tissue that has been processed to remove all cells leaving behind a regenerate collagen matrix. Once the cells have been removed, the matrix is preserved witha a patented freeze-drying process. AlloDerm is widely used in both medicine and dentistry for plastic and reconstructive surgery. Originally developed to treat burn patients.

After this process ,the graft is then ready for implantation to help your body begins its own tissue regeneration process. Soon after placement, blood flows from your tissue into the AlloDerm. Next your own cells move into AlloDerm and begin the process of tissue regeneration. Overtime, AlloDerm allows regrowth of your own healthy gum tissue.

A beautiful new smile and improved periodontal health- your keys to smiling, eating and speaking with comfort and confidence.
